TTT | 20 books from 2015 you should read.

I'm going to cheat here and list my top 20 favorite books that I read this year and that were also published in 2015, separated into different categories. I am talking about my favorite series starters, stand-alones, sequels and series conclusions.

Series starters.
1. Sarah J. Maas - A court of thorns and roses. Because: swoony romance, awesome characters. A retelling of Beauty and the beast.
2. Leigh Bardugo - Six of crows. Because: world-building, plot and cast <3 Six people need to free someone from a highly secured place.
3. Jodi Meadows - The orphan queen. Because: snark.
4. Renee Ahdieh - The wrath and the dawn. Because: plot and characters. Based on Thousand and one night.
5. Becky Wallace - The storyspinner. Because: really enjoyable writing-style.
6. Rae Carson - Walk on earth a stranger. Because: it is Rae Carson.
7. Victoria Schwab - A darker shade of magic. Because: different sorts of London, amazing characters and fantastic villains.

Stand-alones.
1. Kasie West - The fill-in boyfriend. Because: snark! Character development.
2. Patrick Ness - The rest of us just live here. Because: unique promise. It's all about the people who aren't the heroes.
3. Mindy McGinnis - A madness so discreet. Because: creepy.
4. Cat Winters - The uninvited. Because: touching end.
5. Sarah McGuire - Valiant. Because: use of a not-so-popular fairytale.
6. Naomi Novik - Uprooted. Because: beauty and the beast retelling! Great writing.

Sequels.
1. Sarah J. Maas - Queen of Shadows. Because: Celaena. Magic. Action. Manon.
2. Libba Bray - Lair of dreams. Because: subtle creepiness.
3. Samantha Shannon - The mime order. Because: it's brilliant.

Series conclusions.
1. Marissa Meyer - Winter. Because: it's all you could ask for. Saying goodbye is hard though.
2. Susan Ee - End of days. Because: gore and bloody.
3. A. C Gaughen - Lion heart. Because: Scarlet <3
4. Heidi Schulz - The pirate code. Because: puzzles! Sarcastic voice.

  1. AHH I LOVE SO SO MANY FO THESE TWO. *collapses in adoration for all the books* I adored Winter (literally just finished it) and squeeee it was perfection. :') I am still in awe of The Rest of Us Just Live Here (could that've been any more perfect?!) and Wrath and the Dawn. GAH BUT CLIFFHANGER THOUGH. And I just realised how much I need the Orphan Queen. XD

  6. Being on a buying ban and busy with uni means I haven't had time to read even a quarter of these *sobs* But they're all on my TBR list and I actually asked for a few as birthday presents so I can read them soon! I hope I end up loving them as much as you did :D

  7. There are a lot of books on your list that are on my TBR list. The only one I've read is "Winter" which is my top fav of the year. I miss the series already!

  8. Yes Yes Yes to so many of these! It's topics like this that I wish Ash and I didn't split our lists lol. I still cheated a little bit though because I couldn't limit it to 5. I loved all of these except The Rest of Us Just Live Here (wasn't for me) and The Mime Order (haven't read it yet). You have some fine taste in books, lady :)

    1. Ha, thank you very much ;) I can understand how hard it must be to be restricted to only 5 books. I couldn't do it, haha.

  11. Wuhu QUEEN OF SHADOWS & ACOTAR - Sarah J. Maas made me so happy this year! *.* And omg WINTER was my fav book of 2015! ♥

  12. ACOTAR, I absolutely LOVED that one too Mel. Who knew that a retelling and a new adult one at that could have been so incredible! Goes to show that there's nothing Sarah J Maas can't do. Another of my favourites was also The rest Of Us Live Here as well. I love stories about the little guy who plods along through life being ordinary. It was so superbly written wasn't it. You've got incredible taste in fiction Mel, thanks for sharing <3

  13. I AM SO HAPPY to see End of Days on your list! I feel like so many people were disappointed by it but I ADORED the finale. And Raffe <3

Six of Crows was also a favorite of the year. IT WAS SO GOOD. ZOMG.

I did read ACoTAR and enjoyed it but it wasn't a favorite .-. I am also so so worried about the sequel.

I did start Lair of Dreams earlier this year but never finished it? Like I was actually enjoying it but I never got around to finishing it because I picked up another book instead and I feel like I should really fix that!

Thank you for sharing, Mel! :)

I really want to read something by V.E. Schwab and A Darker Shade of Magic sounds up my alley. I might have to pick up a copy soon :O

So many beautiful covers, too. <3

  16. Now that is a power-packed list. I haven't read many books on it unfortunately (university and reading time rarely mix), but I'm looking forward to reading Winter so, so much!

  17. I've only read four of the books on your list, namely ACOTAR, QOS, The Rest of Us Just Live Here and The Fill-In Boyfriend but the rest are on my to-read list. I'm super excited to get into Marissa Meyer's series now that Winter is out and happy to hear it was one of your favourite series conclusions, Mel. :D
