This post recaps my month, from personal life to books I’ve read & bought, movies and TV shows I’ve seen and links to posts that interest me.
I celebrated my birthday and it was simply amazing! It was on Friday and I had to work, but in the evening I persuaded my boyfriend to go to Cinderella in the cinema. (Loved it! It’s magical)
My family came over on Saturday and it was great; hanging out with everyone, playing board games and having fun. My sister always make my birthday cake and this year she has made my favorite cake so far! I asked for a HP themed cake and it was even better than I could imagine. A HP book with one of my favorite quotes (“always”) and my Hogwarts house <3
I also got really spoiled with money (I'm going to buy a new camera! Hello Canon 700d), tickets for a musical, a tote bag, a bookish mug, a cd from one of my favorite bands [thanks to my wonderful boyfriend] and my parents are giving me the newest Kobo Glo HD. (see more under Whozits)
Easter was nice. I got my favorite chocolates (see book haul) and I had two days filled with playing board games. First day with my family, second day with my boyfriend’s family. It was nice to spend so much quality time with everyone. I also had a family weekend with my boyfriend’s family to celebrate his sister’s birthday. We went four days away and we played lots of board games.
My internship is going better ever day. It’s still very busy and it takes up a most of my time, but I learn a lot. I got my midterm review and he was very positive! My grade is 8/10 now, so I’m very pleased. I have worked with: urine, pus, faeces, parasites, MRSA, TBC and respiratory tract. I also got to judge Malaria blood slides on my own! Next up are anaerobes (bacteria who live without oxygen) and it’s really interesting so far. I love this work and the place is perfect for me. Kind people.

Cinderella: FANTASTIC. Go and see it in the cinema. Music, casting, costumes; perfect.
Frozen Fever: this was a short movie they showcased before Cinderella and it’s adorable.
I finished my rewatch of Game of Thrones season 4 and I am now starting season 5. FINALLY.
I finished season 6 and 7 from Dexter. I can’t believe all the twists.
I’m terribly behind on Once upon a time and The 100 :( but I’m up to date with New Girl, The musketeers and Big Bang Theory.
*bad Mel, very bad Mel*

This is something new I want to add to my monthly recaps. You can always find tons of links to interesting posts on Christina reads YA and I thought it would be fun to highlight some articles and news that interest me. It is divided in Whozits (random stuff with gadgets and gismos for YT and scientific articles) and Whatzits (bookish).
Kobo announced it’s newest e-reader! After the Kobo Aura HD H20, it will release their newest Kobo Glo HD. I’ve been in love with my Kobo Glo for over 3 years now, but my oldie can use an upgrade and I can’t wait to get this one in my hands. The H20 was a little too big for me, so this is awesome news!
You lucky guys are able to get it May 1st, Europa has to wait until June 1st. Kobo Glo HD. Here are some more articles if you are interested in it like me: Kobo Glo HD pictures. Already a review.
And do you keep an eye on the cast for Beauty and the beast? It gets more epic every time. My heart is filled with happiness.
Gadgets and gismos.
-Brazilian researchers have found a break-though in a treatment for Parkinson’s disease. There is a possible progress with stem cell therapy with the use of a substance that’s used for treating cancer.
-A small RNA molecule can suppress cancer-causing genes in mice
-Common bacteria are on the verge of becoming antibiotic-resistance superbugs. I see this happen at work too. We get a LOT of requests to test for antibiotic resistance and there was an outbreak of MRSA (methicillin, or sometimes even multi, resistance Staphylococcus aureus). To tie in with this article cigarette smoke makes MRSA more resistant to our immune system. But good news, there might be a potential game-changer in the fight against these superbugs. A new class of antibiotics that is resistant to resistance. Or perhaps this 1,000-year-old potion that shows promise against MRSA. If you are new to this topic, I suggest to read more about antimicrobial/drugs resistance in this article. And here is more information about MRSA.
-There is a more accurate DNA blood test to detect Down syndrome.
-I love to look at images under the microscope; this is a wonderful gallery with fruit and vegetables.
-I like art, but I must admit that I don’t always get it (those modern paintings with splashes of colour that symbolize something? Not my cup of tea) This is just amazing; Under water art.
-The covers from Susan Dennard – Truthwitch and Alexander Bracken – Passenger.
-Publication date for The raven king by Maggie Stiefvater was pushed back to February 2016.
How was your April?
