I also participated in the 2014 Love-a-thon and you can find my interview here for even more information. Hosted by from
- What’s your name?
Melanie, but everybody calls me Mel.
- Where in the world are you blogging from?
The cold and rainy Netherlands.
- How did you get into blogging in the first place?
Goodreads. I started to post my reviews there and I stumbled upon a few bloggers. I decided I wanted to do the same and I simply got started.
- How did you come up with your blog name?
It’s a wink to my love for Harry Potter, based on their newspaper ‘The Daily Prophet.’
- What genre do you read and review the most on your blog?
Fantasy and Fairytales & retellings!
- What other types of posts do you do on your blog, apart from reviews?
I have a mixture of different posts: discussions (based on bookish problems and personal things I notice around the community), Fairytale-related posts, personal stuff like my monthly recap and movie talk, especially about Disney.
- Best blogging experience so far?
Getting interviewed by different bloggers, being highlighted on the HarperCollins website, being named in the acknowledgments of a book I proofread and getting named in the new Cress paperback! I’m also happy with all the interactions I’ve had with some publishers and authors, everybody is so friendly. Also; I got into a book club because of my blog and these girls are amazing friends now!
- Favorite thing about the blogging community?
It gives me the ability to hang out with people who share the same passion for reading. Fangirling with someone who loves the book as much as you is the best thing in the world.

- What’s an underrated book or series that you think everyone should read?
Juliet Marillier. She’s one of my favorite authors, but I rarely see her books mentioned in the community. She is such a gifted author with her magical stories filled with great settings and strong female characters. I’m going to reread her Sevenwaters series this year, so I can finally review them on the blog next to Wildwood dancing and Heart’s blood. And can we take a few minutes to appreciate her gorgeous covers?
- Which book boy or girl would be your book BFF?
I might be a bit shy and quiet when I meet someone for the first time, but once I get to know someone I can talk for hours. I always like sarcastic people and it’s nice to have someone who is easy with chit-chats to break the ice. I think I would get along just fine with Thorne (Scarlet/Cress). I would love to have a friend like Celaena. She is so fierce and a loyal friend, I could also learn a lot of tricks from her. I like strong, intelligent (female) characters.
- Apart from reading, what are your other hobbies or interests?
Obviously, I blog and write. I’m a TV show/movie addict (if you are a follower you might have noticed this in my Monthly recaps) I like traveling too, other cultures, food, languages: I love it! I want to have fun and do new things in life, like the diving instruction I had in January. I spend a lot of time with my family and boyfriend.
I’m interested in many things. I’m already looking for a home study after I graduate, just because I like to learn. I’m never done with new information, especially about scientific topics. I used to draw a lot, but I haven’t got the time for it and I hope to pick it up soon. I always have music on the background and I’m obsessed with Disney and fairytales. So, that’s me in a few sentences.
- Apart from book shopping, what else do you like shopping for?
Clothes, but not jeans. I love to get new things to wear, because good clothes make me feel more confident. I hate putting on/off pants though and it’s the most frustrating part of shopping, because most of them never seem to fit my shape. When I finally find a pair that fits me I try to buy them in different colours to get it over with, haha.
- At a party, the DJ suddenly changes the song – and it’s your song. What song would be playing?
I don’t have my song and the music I listen to isn’t really appropriate for a party (I love folk, but that’s not something you can dance on) Lately I’ve been listening a lot to Sia – Elastic Heart, so that might be a good pick.
- Pick out either a book you want turned into a film/TV show, or a film/TV show you want turned into a book.
I already did a post with my movie cast for A court of thorns and roses. I would love to see Juliet Marillier’s books turned into a movie. Her world-building is so detailed and her cast is diverse, it would be fantastic.
