20 things you probably didn't know about me – tag.

Tag banner

I wasn’t tagged, but I really like these questions so I'm going to answer them anyway. This is also the moment where I tell you that I tag everyone who wants to do this tag too. Are you ready for some Mel information? Here we go:

How tall are you?
I am 168 cm or 5' 6"

Do you have a hidden talent and if so, what?
I always thought hidden talents were things you discover some day.. so I bet I have enough hidden talents I haven’t discovered yet. Something you guys might not know that I have the talent to make all my hairpins disappear – and they can’t be found.

What is your biggest blog-related pet peeve?
People who leave generic comments to gain more followers and page views. Saying ‘great review’ doesn’t do the trick.

What is your biggest non-blog-related pet peeve?
At the moment, I’m VERY annoyed by the fact that some people claim that one of our Dutch traditions needs to be changed, because they feel discriminated. Don’t get me started, I’m getting angry already.

Small_Gold_Album_-_First_Aid_KitWhat’s your favorite song?
That’s a hard one. I listen to music all day long if I get the chance and I like a variation of styles. I think my favorite song at the moment is First Aid Kit – Stay Gold (I’m linking you to my favorite acoustic version) and My silver lining. Please, listen to it. The lyrics are great.

What’s your favorite Etsy shop?
Every shop with one of my fandoms in it is a favorite shop, I can’t pick one. I have never bought anything from Etsy before, but I sure like to browse there.

What’s your favorite way to spend your free time when you’re alone?
Reading of course, but lately I’m also watching a lot of TV shows and movies on Netflix. It’s easy to fall into the Netflix-addiction. Another thing I like to do is play some games on the PS3.

What’s your favorite junk food?
Junk food is delicious, but some food makes me feel so unhealthy. I can’t stay away from anything with chocolate in it though.

Do you have a pet or pets?
No and I never had any either. My parents never wanted one. Oh, wait! I lied if you count a fish as a pet (and to be honest, I don't count it in my case.) My sister and I had two female goldfishes when I was younger. We went on vacation and my aunt was taking care of them. When we got home we suddenly had 6 goldfishes and we thought they got babies. The true story was that our goldfishes died and my aunt felt guilty, so she bought some extra ones to keep us happy, haha. I’ve always wanted a cat though.

What are your number one favorite non-fiction and fiction books?
tumblr_inline_na3i0lAWYO1rlpk9c
I don’t read non-fiction and I seriously can’t pick.. You can find a list with some of my favorite books on the About me page.

What’s your favorite beauty product?
I have four essentials I use every day: my BB cream, a concealer, my brow powder and a mascara.

When were you last embarrassed and what happened?
I always feel embarrassed when I have to chitchat with new people, because I suck at this. The last time I tried to say several words at the same time and I had word vomit. So annoying.

If you could only drink one beverage (besides water) for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Well, when I’m at home I only drink water or water with lemonade syrup, but when I have a diner I always go with apple juice – so that would be my pick.

What’s your favorite movie?
giphy
You know me, I love animation movies and specific: Disney, but there are also a lot of other movies I watch. Seriously, I can’t pick.

What were you in high school: prom queen, nerd, cheerleader, jock, valedictorian, band geek, loner, artist prep etc?
Stereotypes all the way. You know who I were? Me.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live?
SOME PLACE WARM. I don’t care where, although I wouldn’t mind if it was Australia, New Zealand or Bora Bora. I can’t handle cold. I’m always cold, so I need warm weather to keep myself from freezing.

PC or Mac?
PC girl.

Last romantic gesture from a crush, date, boyfriend/girlfriend?
I like that my boyfriend does little things so show that he cares. I don’t need big gestures. He has vacation and I don’t, so he makes sure that I can eat right away when I get home late from my internship. And last time he put on some candles. Sweet.

Favorite celeb?
To name some guys: Tom Hiddleston, Luke Evans, Ryan Gosling, Robert Downey jr., Richard Armitage.
And some girls: Emma Watson, Emma Stone, Natalie Dormer (she is so gorgeous), Zooey Deschanel.

Which blogger do you secretly want to be best friends with?
With everyone of course, but I’m very happy with the friends I’ve made so far.

  1. Ahhh I love this tag! :D I was just preparing to do it myself, so now I can say you "tagged" me haha.

I LOVE FIRST AID KIT. I wish more people listened to them. :( Their music is so different and a lot of fun. Stay Gold is such a good song.

Haha picking a favorite book is hard for me too, I completely understand! Same with a favorite movie. I tend to just pinpoint Marvel though because I've loved allllll of their movies.

LOL at the stereotype question. I could never decide where I "fit" in as far as "groups" go.

Please, can we just switch places? I love cold weather but live somewhere that's ALWAYS hot (Las Vegas). Our summers get up to 110 F. :(

I freaking love Tom Hiddleston okay it kind of hurts to even think about. He's so wonderful. /swoon

Oh god, Mel. You're my dream height. MY DREAM!
    I've always wanted a cat as well but I fear that I'm just not going to have enough time to give it all the love it deserves D;
I love brow powder. Imagine my life without it. It'd be no eyebrows or something :P
MEL COME TO AUSTRALIA!! It's sunshine all year round. There wasn't a day this winter when the sun didn't peak out!
Thanks so much for sharing :D

  5. Gah, picking favourites can be so hard sometimes >.< I kind of do have one single favourite movie of all time, but it's so much harder for me to pick just one book that I love more than any others. Sometimes seperating my favourites into one from every genre makes it easier, but it's still a tough decision to make!

I don't think I could handle living somewhere where it's hot all the time, I even get too warm during the winter months. I think I'd much rather have my four seasons, even if it only feels like three where I am!

  6. I definitely think that's my blogging pet peeve too! I mean, it's not especially hard to read a post and say something (anything!) that shows you read it. Nobody is stupid enough to think someone saying "great review!" means they read it. Gosh.

SO EASY to fall into the Netflix hole! It's so nice to cuddle up and watch something mindlessly. :)

I'm so bad at small talk, too!! I like to talk to people about real stuff, not to fill space, so it's so hard to come up with something to say to people I don't know. You're not alone! :D

  7. I can't read Nonfiction either. It's not even like I don't want to read it, I can't read it.This sucks because there are a lot of Memoirs that I really want to read but when I get to reading them I cannot get past the first 10 pages. I have no idea why this happens but I get so frustrated with myself!

I can understand the talking to new people. I am horrible at starting conversations with people I just met. I don't know what to say, how to respond to things they say,I am just terrible at it. And I hate how I get nervous during the conversation because there is just so much pressure to talk to the person and how after the conversationyou start regretting everything you said or didn't say. *Sigh* I'm just not great at interacting with new people.

Sorry, I went on a little rant there. But anyways, great post!! I just love reading and writing tag posts :)

I'm totally crushing on Natalie Dormer too. She has both beauty and brains! Plus, she's a fantastic actress. I loved her in the Tudors and I just want to watch her Women Who Kick Ass Comic Con panel over and over again.

Great tag! Love the gifs that you used, heh.

  10. Picking a favorite book is hard.

I just listened to the two songs you wrote about. I didn't know them.
    I like these songs :)

And I agree with you on the Dutch tradition. I'm Dutch ;)
I haven't read/watched every news item about is because it annoyes me.
I don't get it. The are not even looking in to the real story and history of this tradition.
    It's sad :(

  11. That's sweet of your boyfriend! I'm fond of the little gestures myself - even if it's getting home from work and the dishes are done. :P
I totally want to live someplace warm year-round too! I absolutely hate the cold weather, and it's about to start here....
I'm not great at talking to new people either - I end up saying the weirdest things or talk to fast LOL. I hate it.

  13. Ahh Mel, maybe you should move to Indonesia xD It's a warm place -- maybe a tad too hot lol.

I think the majority of us always have troubles picking favorites...There are simply too many things we deeply love it feels unfair to mention one and not mention the rest haha.

I'm a PC girl as well. At my school, last year they changed all the class computers to Mac and even though I've been using it for more than a year it still confuses me to do certain things... They said it was to keep up with the latest technology but I still believe that we were better off with PC -- simply because most of my teachers feel more comfortable with using them. I can't deny that I love that huge screen though! ^^

Generic blog comments suck! ''Great haul, here's mine: _____'' Nope. K thanks bye! haha I've never bought anything from esty either but I adore browsing there and pretending I could buy all the things! I like your answer about when you feel embarrassed. I should have said that too because I always get embarrassed when I have to chit-chat with strangers lol Love the Sherlock gif and I also love Tom Hiddleston, Ryan Gosling, Robert Downey Jr., Emma Watson, Emma Stone and Zooey Deschanel ♥ SO glad you decided to participate Mel! But aw. You really, really should get a cat :) I love my girl so much. <3 Sniffs. You almost always drink water? Now I am jealous, lol. I hate the tase of water :p my favorite is Red Bull at the moment <3 I drink one a day. Not too much, hih. I also love Cola (A) which, I know, isn't good for me, but yeah. I can't stand water. Not for me :) Love the rest of the answers so much. <3 You are awesome. And omg. I want to live somewhere warm too. This cold at the top of Norway is killing me a little :p no fun, lol. "People who leave generic comments to gain more followers and page views." YES! This is definitely one of my pet peeves too! I'd rather they not leave a comment at all then leave a simple, generic one, you know?

And I'd definitely want to live somewhere warm as well. Right now I live in California, which is absolutely gorgeous (it's 22℃ / 70℉ the whole year round!), but I used to live in Chicago which was below freezing in the winter and practically boiling in the summer...so I definitely hear you! ;)

I also love Netflix binging...it's and addiction. And I pretty much love all your celebs, all my favorites as well. Great post :) and a little new insight here and there about you. Those are always easy to read.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yes, generic comments are so frustrating! Especially when you're someone who puts so much effort into the commenting you do. It takes os much time to be a thoughtful commenter, but it is so valued! I think you're amazing at it!

Love that you ended up with six fish even though you originally only had two, and you didn't even want fish anyways! I've always had pets growing up. I'm actually quite sad that I don't have any here. I keep trying to convince Dave to let me buy a guinea pig or something but he won't let me. Though I think that has more to do with his parents not allowing pets in the house than him not wanting them.

Apple juice! I love you get apple juice when you go out. I have to admit, I usually get pop. Such a baddie. But I do love me some apple juice! And chocolate!! Who can resist chocolate? Sometimes Dave will bring me home a big bar and I'll think "Okay, need to make this last so I'll just have one piece now and then save the rest for later" and then you know what happens... it's ALL GONE! Darn my lack of self control.

Anyways, fun tag :) Love that you chose to do it even if you weren't tagged!

  21. Oh yes, Netflix-addiction for the win! :D It is easy to fall into, and I love it! I think it's wonderful that your Aunt got you more goldfishes to make up for the ones that died. I was so thinking your story would be about a mistaken female goldfish though. :) This is a great tag- I'm glad you did it!

  22. BAHAHA, that hidden talent is gold, Mel! I think I might have a similar talent -- my hairbands always go missing, too. We're just too awesome, you know. And bleh, I can't imagine anyone liking generic comments. Thankfully I don't get them that much anymore, but I know how frustrating they are, and like Asti said, it's worse still when you put a lot of effort into writing that post or comment on THEIR blog. Geez...

I used to spend my free time reading the heck out of books as well, but ever since I got into anime and manga, they've pretty much taken over my life. :P I guess I'm kind of happy I don't have Netflix -- less distractions from the towering pile of ARCs waiting to be read and reviewed, lol.

Haha, your aunt sounds like such a sweetie. We used to have fish (and turtles, too), but our fish all died when my sister accidentally emptied the entire bottle of fish pellets into the tank. They didn't have enough oxygen to breathe. T_T Cats are the best! I hope you do get one one day. They can be selfish bastards, but in the end, they're super cute and awesome to cuddle with... even though they may or may not try to claw your eyes out if you try to snuggle up with them for too long. Like I said -- selfish bastards. ><

I know this sounds horrible, but I'm kind of glad that I'm not the only one who faces a communication crisis whenever I try to talk to someone. I'm exactly the same as you. If I don't stay quiet the entire time, I end up talking too much while people shoot me really annoyed and "can you shut up?" looks. It's awful.

You have awesome taste in guys. Just sayin'. ;) Tom Hiddleston and Robert Downey Jr. all the way! Great getting to know more about you, Mel!

    1. Oh yes, hairbands too! Everything that goes into my hair seems to disappear, it's an interesting gift. Netflix is a trap! Try to stay away if you can, haha. My aunt is very sweet :)

  23. The goldfish story! That one had me giggling! While it is sad at the fishies died, it was quite lovely of your aunt to make it up by buying *more* goldfish.

I'm totally in agreement on your beauty essentials. I need foundation, concealer, something for my brows, and eyeliner. I don't always use mascara every day, but it provides a nice something for the eyes, doesn't it? :D What BB cream do you use? I've tried Garnier but the texture is just not for me. :\

    1. Haha, we were very happy with the extra fish at that time (my mother not so much, haha) I really like the BB cream from Essence! I don't know if you have know that brand?

  24. Generic comments do get tiresome, but I prefer them over the silent stalkers because at least that way you know they are there. Chocolate everything is my favourite junk food as well, but I'd have to go with something alcoholic for the one beverage forever question, probably beer. Thanks for sharing, I always enjoy learning more about my favourite bloggers!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I love this! I too have a talent for losing hair things. Where do they all GO??? Generic comments are the worst .... although sometimes it's hard to think of something to say! Not often, but sometimes. I don't mind short comments from my best bloggy friends - I know they're probably busy and it's lovely that they made the time to come to my blog - but apart from that, I'm not a fan.

I love your gifs for the favourite book and film questions! Accurate. Also: I have to agree with you RE fish. Really *not* proper pets. If I ever have kids, they're not getting fish. Sorry, future children. You can have a dog.

  27. Hehe, the part about goldfish makes me smile. :D It's so cute that your sister and you thought the goldfishes have babies. I probably would have thought the same if I were in your situation. xD ANIMATION MOVIES! *high fives* People tend to think that it's kind of childish to watch those kinds of movies when you're already in college. But well yeah I like it so... -_- And you are never too old for Disney!

Ohh chocolate. I can't resist anything with chocolate in it either. Your answer about high school's circle is simply epic. <3
